Emergency Operating Procedures

Reminders for Parents:

  1. DO NOT CALL OR GO TO THE SCHOOL SITE: For your safety and the safety of responders, DO NOT call or approach the school or evacuation areas during emergencies. During an active emergency, staff members are prioritized to enact critical safety procedures, which require their full focus and attention. You will be notified via Parent Square and when a student release process is initiated.
  2. Read Emails and Follow Guidance: The district will communicate key information and provide instructions to parents/guardians through ParentSquare at the direction of law enforcement and emergency services agencies. The District's highest priority is to first evaluate and respond to the emergency and ensure the immediate safety of students; and then to notify parents/guardians if the individual emergency dictates. When you receive a message from ParentSquare, please regard it as very important and follow all instructions provided. In the event of any earthquake, flood, wildfire, or other emergency, keep your radios tuned to KCBS-740 AM, or KGO-810 AM for advisory information.
  3. Follow Directions from Staff: Our staff are trained to manage these situations. Please follow their instructions and cooperate fully to help us maintain an organized and safe environment.
  4. Delayed Student Release: It’s important to note that all EOPs include a student release plan. However, please understand that reaching the student release portion of the EOP may take some time and typically falls towards the end of the EOP. During an active emergency, staff members are prioritized to enact critical safety procedures, which require their full focus and attention. As a result, we will have very minimal staff available to process student release requests. This is intentional, as the safety and well-being of all students and staff must come first.
  5. Bring Identification: You must bring Picture ID to identify yourself for release of any student to your care. Do not attempt to remove your child or any other child from school without having signed the emergency release form at the Student Release area.
  6. Update Contact Information Regularly: ParentSquare's accuracy is dependent on making sure all information is up-to-date in the school district's database. Any adjustments in your contact information or emergency contacts can be made by contacting your child's school. It is important to keep your contact information up-to-date at all times, even including changes in email addresses, phone numbers and your emergency contacts. We will not allow anyone to pick up your child if they are not listed as an emergency contact.

Additional Information

School Site Safety Plans & District Emergency Manual

Per Ed. Code 32280, each school in a district is required to maintain a comprehensive school safety plan and update these plans annually. Each plan has the required elements. All LCMSD schools have completed the updates to these specifications and Trustees have been provided with copies of these updates. School and District Emergency Manuals are on file in site offices and the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan and reporting form is on the LCMSD website here. If community members would like to learn about LCMSD Emergency Procedures in more detail, they may contact the specific site office for more information and to set up an appointment.

Emergency on the Way to School

If children are caught in an emergency between home and school, it is recommended that they go immediately to school.

    Food and Water Supply

In the event that children need to remain on campus for several hours after an emergency, we have a basic supply of water and food.

    Evacuations

Conditions may be such that law enforcement deems it is necessary to remove students from the immediate area. An instant alert system (ParentSquare) will communicate to parents/guardians, when possible, the location of students. A notice will also be posted on the front door of the school with the location of the students. If students are to be removed to a Red Cross Shelter, they will be kept together under the supervision of the Red Cross and a Child Protection Services worker.
